On 6th November 2021 a group of 21 RDCS members with 12 guests and visitors enjoyed a splendid Singing Day at the Djanogly Recital Hall on the university campus. We were led by Jeremy Jackman the renowned choral conductor and one time King’s Singer and supported as usual, on piano, by Michael Overbury.
The music covered a range of styles and was new to a significant number of singers. So we worked through the day from scratch to polished parformances of Vivian Ellis’ Spread a little happiness, Sullivan’s madrigal Brightly dawns our wedding day from The Mikado and Haydn’s Te Deum in C.
Jeremy lightened the day with anecdotes, ranging from highly amusing to totally terrifying, drawn from his musical career and transformed a band of singers from the croaky lands of COVID to be fitting companions of the Cherubim and Seraphim.
